The Ice-O-Matic GEMU090: Comparing Undercounter Ice Machines for Homeowners

This is no joke: The Ice-O-Matic GEMU090 is an excellent choice for the homeowner with a desire for chewable ice and looking to share the chewable ice experience with their guests.

Why does the GEMU090 leave all its competitors behind?

Ice-O-Matic GEMU090

The ice maker's slim profile (less than 15 inches wide and just over 33 inches tall) permits the homeowner to position this unit, complete with internal storage bin, adjacent to any kitchen or bar countertop. A 115-volt, three-prong plug makes it easy to install for inside or outdoor usage. A stainless steel cabinet and quiet operation are additional features.

Nugget Ice

It's About the Feel of Ice in Your Mouth
Nugget shaped ice, called Pearl Ice® by the manufacturer Ice-O-Matic, is the "hot" new trend in ice cubes. The nugget holds its shape well in a glass, but melts in your mouth or chews easily.

No competitor has a nugget ice maker so well-suited and recommended for purchase by homeowners.

If you prefer chewable nugget or pearl ice cubes for your home usage, only the GEMU090 delivers!

Production Volume and Storage Capacity
Perhaps the typical full ice cube is acceptable to you, but ice production is the most important requirement for the type of home entertaining you do. Restaurants estimate 1.5 pounds of ice per customer; a caterer plans on 1 pound of ice per guest. If you have 50 guests attending a summer party, you could need 50 to 75 pounds of ice.

The Ice-O-Matic GEMU090 can produce 85 pounds of nugget ice in 24 hours. The ice bin is accessed by opening the front door. Since the internal bin stores only 22 pounds at a time, you could make ice ahead of time and bag the additional ice for storage in a freezer.

In comparison to other undercounter ice makers suitable for home use, a competitor's undercounter model, the Manitowoc SM-50A, makes the least amount of ice (53 ponds of octagon-shaped cube ice in 24 hours), but it does have a larger, 25-pound internal storage bin. Another competitor's model, the Hoshizaki C-100BAF, can make up to 92 pounds of their cubelet ice (very similar to nugget ice) in a 24 hour period, with a 22-pound storage bin similar to the GEMU090. Both of the competitor models are suitable options. However, while the SM-50 costs less than the GEMU090, it makes significantly less ice each day, and the octagon ice is a much larger cube. The C-100BAF makes more nugget style ice than the GEMU090 and has the same size storage bin, but costs $400 more. If you need high-volume ice production for home entertaining at a reasonable cost, the GEMU090 has what it takes.

Options, Installation, and Sanitizing
Simple to use operational controls are concealed behind the GEMU090's stainless steel swing-style door.

Installation requires only a 115-volt outlet and suitable water connections. An optional drain pump kit is available for locations without a floor drain. Pure Ice® anti-microbial technology provides lifetime protection from odor, bacteria, and scaling.

Recommended by IceMachinesPlus, the Ice-O-Matic GEMU090 is priced well, simple to install and is keeping up with the trending desire for nugget ice production!
